This is followed by a thorough physical examination of the involved body part. Both the patient and the physician will then together arrive at a treatment plan individually suited to the patient's diagnosis and unique circumstances if applicable.
2. X-ray Imaging: on site X-ray are performed typically prior to seeing your physician. If you are bringing X-rays with you which were taken at an outside facility, please obtain the images themselves on CD or print copies. A written report is NOT sufficient. Your doctor may request that the X-rays are repeated if images are not brought with the patient. If you would like a copy of your X-rays after the office visit, please request them and they will be placed onto a CD for a nominal price.
3. MRI/CT Scan/Bone Scan: If your physician deems that further imaging is indicated, we will request, on your behalf, authorization (if needed) from your insurance company for the appropriate test. This is typically scheduled on a separate day. These tests can also be done (after authorization if needed) in the basement of our building at Kingsway Imaging (718-758-1500).
4. Musculoskeltal Ultrasound: a rapidly emerging, cutting edge technology with high end applications to joint and ligament conditions is Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. This is a painless procedure which involves placing a cool gel on the affected body part followed by applying a transducer which sends ultrasound waves to the body part allowing the physician to "see" multiple structures. It is harmless and does not involve radioactivity. It is especially helpful when an MRI cannot be obtained (i. E. , Pacemaker). Dr. Reimer can perform this test in the office if necessary. Ultrasound can also be used to treat certain conditions (calcific rotator cuff tendonitis, joint injections). It can improve the accuracy of injections as well.
5. Injections: If your doctor deems an injection can help you either with pain or for diagnosis, he can perform this in the office. Typical injections PClude a corticosteroid ("cortisone") or viscosupplementation ("Synvisc" "Euflexxa" "Hylan" "Supartz" "gel injection"). Steroid injections can be used for a variety of ailments including arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis and trigger points. Viscosupplementation is typically used for arthritis in the knee, hip or shoulder.
